When you go into a training session with your dog, you need to have some basic tools: treats (small ones, or medium to large ones that you can break up), a leash (for Stay, Come, Heel, and any outdoor-specific tricks if you don’t have a fenced-in yard to work with), and as much patience as you can summon. If you’re not patient with your canine friend, he/she won’t want to learn. No one likes to be yelled at, especially not your dog, who just wants to make you happy.
Now, the main way to teach your dog to do anything is through repetition. Each time you treat your dog for a job well done, it reinforces the idea that doing what you want him to is a good idea.
