How Brave Are You?

It’s Friday again!  Time for my favorite link-up.  It’s Five-Minute Friday with  If you want to give it a try, please do!  The rules are easy.  Just go to the page and read the rules.  Then write!

Today’s topic:  Brave

Brave is a very tough word to define.  When I hear the word, the first person that comes to mind is my niece.  She’s dying from brain cancer and she’s only just turned 14.  She had her first tumor removed a little over two years ago.

I know it must be really difficult for her to wake up every day and not know what it’s going to be like.  Maybe she wakes up everyday knowing exactly what it’ll be like.  Either way, she still gets up.  She’s even gone back to school again after having a tumor bleed just before Thanksgiving/her birthday.  It is basically a stroke and things are really hard for her right now.  But she keeps going.  She goes to school.  She deals with all of the people who tell her to live her life to the fullest.  She deals with people that say things to her like, “I would just give up!”  I’m sure there are days she wants to do just that but I think she lives for us…her family.  I think she knows we aren’t ready yet and so she has to keep doing it until we are.

To me that’s brave.

I don’t know if I could ever be that brave.  Could I live for my children and husband?  No matter how bad it was?  We all critisize but no one knows what they would do if it were them.

  1. Yes, for sure your niece is brave beyond measure. She is because she is living beyond. I am touched and inspired by your post. So very glad I stopped by.

  2. I have a 12 and 16 year old and she fits right in the middle. And I can’t imagine what she must be dealing with on a daily basis. Thank you for sharing her bravery. It truly inspires.

  3. I cannot imagine a fourteen year old going through that and how brave she must be! I’m scared to have a back tooth extracted and when I think about your niece I think, “Take the d*** tooth!” Because a tooth is nothing. A little perspective goes a long way.

  4. Thank you all. She is such a sweet and inspirering young lady! It is a blessing for me that I know she knows Christ too.
