This is officially a rant so if you aren’t interested, please read no further. On the other hand. If this convicts you, please know that you make a difference in the lives of many people.
Okay, it is driving me nuts that so many of my Christian friends and family keep saying this that are very unGodly and unChrist-like.
If you think things like people that don’t speak English (by the way, English is how they talk in England not in the US) should leave this country, I’m talking about you. Oh, and could I just say that not many of you speak Navajo or any other Native American language so by your own definition YOU should leave. Sad.
Christ not only spoke to people that looked different than Him, spoke different than Him and even held different beliefs than Him. So a “good” Christian by definition would seek out those in need and serve them no matter where they’re from, what language they speak or how they’re dressed. As my beloved Emily pointed out, the Holy Spirit came down and made people speak in tongues to share the gospel with people from everywhere and it was that that reached and brought many to God.
If you say things like: the illegals are taxing our country by having babies here that we then have to pay for. To you I say, if babies are a gift from God himself then we should be grateful that He has given us the opportunity to minister to that family though the birth of their child. Christ didn’t turn away the social rejects. Even Zacchaeus was a hated tax collector that did horrible things. Christ spoke to him, ate with him and changed his life forever. Read Luke 19 especially verses 9 & 10,
Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this mantoo, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and save the lost.
We, as a society push away the poor. We push aside the hungry for food, knowledge, love. We only want to help those that are like us or that we feel some connection with.
To you I say, Christ turned over those tables for YOU. He thought it was an abomination to His Father for those people to claim to be acting in the name of His father.
Turn away from your hatred of other people because of where they were born or where they live now. Turn away from your judgements about people that you don’t even know.
BE Christlike in everything you do. To do that though, you have to change the way you think and feel about other people. Read your Bible and you will see what Christ really did and follow that path, not the path your political views lead you on.
I saw a t-shirt the other day that said, “I can’t separate my religious views from my political views.” I beg you to live you FAITH, not your religion or your political views.
